Aboriginal Community Services says “thanks for caring” on Aged Care Employee Day

By August 7, 2025No Comments

Day in, day out, Community Support Workers are in the homes of Elders making sure they are living comfortably. Cooks at the Aboriginal Elders Village are dicing, grating, frying and baking, to make sure residents are fed nutritious meals. From Monday to Friday, the Finance Team at our head office makes sure our invoices are paid, and that everything is accounted for. Innovators, managers, carers, creatives, organisers, healers, listeners, defenders, leaders, and advocates join together at Aboriginal Community Services, to ensure Elders are supported. Today we want to say thank you for caring!

Our team is made up of people from many different cultural backgrounds and lived experiences, making our workplace a vibrant and diverse environment.

The types of roles we have at ACS are incredibly varied, including corporate positions, Registered Nurses, Personal Care Workers, Community Engagement Officers, Aged Care Advisors, and more.

It takes a special person to work in aged care and community services. We like to think the sector attracts those who find purpose in helping others and enjoy meaningful work. Empathy, understanding, and care are vital in this industry where our Elders should always be our priority.

Many of our staff have shared how rewarding a career in aged care can be.

“I feel so rewarded when I see how much our support services, and package coordination helps our Elders everyday lives and supports them to stay safely in home, in community.” – Zoe, Aged Care Coordinator, Regional, Whyalla

The care is reflected in feedback we have received from clients,

“I get upset when I talk about her because she’s been really good to me. I can’t complain about her at all. Yeah she’s one of the best workers I’ve ever had and she’s always been there for me so I’ve got a lot of time for Lisa.” – Marie, Metro Client, speaking about her Aged Care Advisor Lisa.

On the other hand, there are plenty of bad days. Often staff will grieve the loss of an Elder they have supported, which is an incredibly difficult thing to go through particularly if they have built a relationship with them. There are also times where clients are in crisis, and it is up to the ACS team to assist. These factors can take a mental toll on aged care workers. We hope to support our team through the difficult times by creating a culture of mental health awareness, and promoting acceptance through initiatives like our Diversity and Inclusion Working Group established in May this year.

To our wonderful team,

Thanks for caring.
